Breakfast Church
Preview Clip – “Breakfast Church” is a multimedia video project I created for Life Community Church in Kirkland, WA.
Tools used: Krita, Blender, Premiere Pro.
Background & Goals

I received a brief summary of the sermon including the title, key verses, focus, and the desired application. My Objective was to create a multimedia video to promote one of Life Community Church’s upcoming sermons. With that information I was able to create this video that promotes a special church service were breakfast was being served.

Process & Progress
Step 1
Inspiration.

I was inspired by interactive vertical videos I’d seen on social media, and started wondering how that kind of engagement could work in a sermon promo. That led to the idea of viewers swiping their thumbs to the beat, each tap passing a pancake to someone entering the church.
Step 2
Captured Reference Footage.
I recorded my thumb swiping to the beat and used it as rotoscope reference for the animation.
Step 3
Create 2D assets in Krita.

Swapped my original blue character’s colors across multiple variants to support the overall composition.
Step 4
Create Breakfast plates in Blender.

Modeled and colored 3D models of the breakfast plate, pancakes, and sides.
Step 5
Breakfast Plate Animation.
Animated a spin for the breakfast plate in Blender so it would flow naturally once moved forward in Premiere.
Step 6
Finger Animation in After Effects.
Rotoscoped the finger footage and animated a dotted line to follow its motion.
Step 7
Integrating the Finger Animation.
Imported the rotoscoped finger into Premiere, refined it with a masked solid version for clarity, and aligned its motion with the animation timing to trigger the interaction.
Step 8
Final Edit.

Combined all animated elements in Premiere, refined pacing in conjunction with music.
Final Outcome
A inclusive invitation brought to life through design and animation.
Combining elements of 3D modeling and animation, 2D animation, and motion graphics, this piece explores how social media trends can be adapted for specific contexts to promote events. Created for Life Community Church, the final video was featured on their social platforms to announce the upcoming “Breakfast Church.”
Polished Version
Note: The version shown here is a refined portfolio cut. It closely matches the original video published by Life Community Church.
Reflection
This project pushed me to leverage current social media trends to promote an important event. I needed to create an asset that promoted interactivity and compelled the viewer to engage. The biggest challenge here was making the finger animation look clean.
Through this project, I learned the value of recognizing trends and using them to tell a story in a fresh way. The finger animation drives the video and pushes the narrative forward. Because “Breakfast Church” is a community event, I wanted viewers to feel like they were part of it. This process reminded me how powerful it is to make the audience feel involved.
